Jewellery Care Tips

Duxford Studio creates high quality products from eco sterling silver, gold vermeil (eco sterling silver plated with gold) and Fairtrade gold. These metals are not indestructible and it's recommended that you learn to care for your pieces so that they become cherished heirlooms. Learn all you need to know here, with our expert jewellery care tips.

When you aren’t wearing your jewellery, store them in the jewellery box provided to avoid any damage. This will also prevent your silver jewellery from tarnishing.

Silver and gold can become brittle when stretched or squeezed to fit which may cause the items to break. I do not recommend that you bend any jewellery to alter the fit. I offer resizing on products but recommend aiming for a perfect fit to avoid this.

It is advised that you remove all jewellery when exercising, showering and using perfumes, creams, oils or any other kind of beauty product to ensure your jewellery stays shiny. Do not store your jewellery in the bathroom, or any other hot and humid room.

Eco Sterling Silver

Over time, sterling silver can tarnish. Frequent use of a jewellery polishing cloth will keep your sterling silver jewellery bright and shiny. If jewellery does become heavily tarnished, use Silvo polishing cream with a soft (non-abrasive) cloth to clean and polish your jewellery.

Gold Vermeil

Gold vermeil pieces from Duxford Studios are plated with 18 carat gold (unless otherwise specified) at 5 microns thickness which is double the industry average. If not cared for, gold vermeil can rub away if in contact with abrasive surfaces or ointments. If you would like to clean your gold vermeil jewellery wash it with a small amount of gentle dish soap or non-chemical soap and warm water. Rinse well and let your jewellery dry on a clean cloth. Use a soft (non-abrasive) cloth or jewellery cloth and gently rub the surface in a circular motion to clean.
